Saving Money for Disney is one of my Favorite things to do! Below is a great money savingย trick to save money for Disney World, and the best place to buy Disney gifts cards.

How we save Hundreds of Dollars for Walt Disney World!

Going to Walt Disney World is a dream come true for most kids and adults. There is nothing like seeing your child’s eyes light up when they see Cinderella’s Castle for the first time, or hugging Mickey Mouse. My kids have had the great fortune of going to WDW 3 times now, and each time was magical and full of memories that will last a lifetime.

We love WDW so much, but as a family of 5, and without a money tree growing in the backyard, we have to save and plan and save some more for our trips to “the world”.

The best place to buy Disney gifts cards:

We started planning our most recent trip 6 months in advance, and figured out exactly how much we would need to save each month. We used a Travel Agent to book our trip, so she kept on top of all the dates that we needed to have payments in by.

To save money we bought Target gift cards online BELOW at a discount. (5-10% off usually)

Shop Target gift cards at Raise.com!

Once those gift cards would come to our email (the were electronic e cards) we would use them to buy Disney gift cards on Target.com with our Target Red Card (debit not credit!) saving another 5%.
So we would pay roughly $20 for a $25 Disney gift card.
The Disney cards were then used by our travel agent to pay off our trip.

  1. I am buying Disney gift cards at Sam’s Club and using them to pay for my resort stay, food, and park tickets. I’m also buying Southwest Airlines gift cards to pay for flight down there as well. I did the math to see how much money I am saving and it’s well worth it to pay for your vacation this way. I also have earned $30 in Sam’s gift cards from Swagbucks making my savings even greater.

    1. 2016. It was a huge thing in the Disney community for a month or so because of this awesome trick. You can still use your target red card to get 5% off your Disney gift cards, they just won’t let you pay with a gift card anymore ๐Ÿ™
other places like Sam’s club still let you though ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. I have used your method of buying Disney gift cards with my Red Card…but, how do you use Target gift cards (discounted from Raise) AND your Red card and still get the 5% off? It’s my understanding that you only get the 5% off the amount that goes on your Red card…?

      1. At the time of writing this blog post, Target was still allowing the payment of Disney gift cards to be made with Target gift cards that we would buy from raise.com. They sometimes do and sometimes don’t allow this. It’s touch a go unfortunately. We would first enter our red card info as the form of payment, which would take off another 5% from our total, and then before checking all the way out online, we would then enter the target gift cards bought from raise, making our total free plus leaving some money on the raise.com target gift card for the next purchase. It was all a little time consuming but it did save us a lot of money this past June when we last went to WDW.

  3. It’s also a good idea to go to Disneygiftcard.com to combine the gift cards so you aren’t calling your travel agent with a zillion small amount gift cards. You can make each gift card worth up to $1000. Also helps because then you have fewer to hold on to as you should always hold on to your gift card until after you travel as any refund will go back to gift cards.
